Women’s Leadership and Workplace Diversity – Benefits to Businesses

A joint CKGSB-UN WOMEN seminar will discuss the positive steps that Chinese companies can take to include women in leadership roles, the benefits of having women in leadership positions, and the impact this has on organizational and financial performance. 

On Friday October 31st, the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN WOMEN) are pleased to be hosting an exciting seminar on “Women’s Leadership and Workplace Diversity-Benefits to Businesses”. Topics for discussion will include the positive steps that Chinese companies can take to promote women in leadership roles, the benefits of having women in senior positions, and the impact this has on organizational and financial performance.

Geoff Wilson, Chief Operating Officer of KPMG Asia Pacific, will deliver a keynote speech on “Creating Competitive Advantage Through Talent and Diversity”, while by Julie Broussard, UN Women Country Program Manager, and Fang Yuyou, CEO of Proya Cosmetics and a CKGSB alumnus, will talk about “Best Practices in Gender Diversity”.

Well-known TV anchor Yang Lan, often referred to as China’s Oprah Winfrey, will then moderate a panel discussion amongst senior Chinese business leaders, including Ms. Liu Qing, COO of taxi-hailing smartphone app Didi Dache, Mr. Wang Guangfa, Chairman and President of real estate conglomerate Fazheng Group and Ms. Lin Bo, Vice Chief Editor of China WTO Tribune.

Geoff Wilson
Chief Operating Officer of KPMG Asia Pacific

Geoff Wilson was appointed Chief Operating Officer of KPMG Asia
Pacific in October 2013. In this role Geoff is responsible for the oversight and strategic direction of KPMG’s regional business comprising 20 countries and over 30,000 people reporting to the Regional Chairman and Asia Pacific Board.

Geoff is a member of both the KPMG Asia Pacific Board and Executive Committee. Geoff’s key focus is aligning the strategic and operational agenda of the region to the firm’s global strategy, in particular active management of investments for growth.

Prior to this Geoff held the position of CEO for KPMG Australia from 2008 to 2013, having held numerous leadership roles within the firm. Geoff also chaired KPMG Australia’s Diversity Leadership Board and is a member of Male Champions of Change, who work to elevate the issue of women’s representation in leadership to the national business agenda.

Yang Lan
Chairperson, Sun Media Group and Sun Culture Foundation

Yang Lan is a household name in China, as a leading broadcast journalist and media entrepreneur. She is the cofounder and Chairperson of Sun Media Group and Sun Culture Foundation, non-profit organization aiming to improve education and promote philanthropy.

She once created and hosted China’s longest-running in-depth talk show, “Yang Lan One on One”, accumulating more than 700 interviews with leaders from around the world. Upon launching Sun TV in 2000, a Greater China first documentary satellite channel with her husband Dr. Bruno Wu, she created “Her Village”, a TV talk show geared towards Chinese urban female audience, which was developed into a multimedia community to empower women.

She is deeply involved in goodwill and charitable work in China. She is currently the Global Ambassador for the Special Olympics Movement and the first Chinese UNICEF Ambassador, the Co-Chair of Lincoln Center China Advisory Council, and the Vice-Chairman of China Charity Alliance. She’s ranked #100 World’s Most Powerful Women in Forbes.
 

Liu Qing
DiDi Taxi (DiDi Dache)

Liu Qing is the COO of DiDi Taxi, which was developed by Beijing Orange Technology Co Ltd. She joined DiDi Taxi in August 2014.

Jean was Managing Director in the Merchant Banking Division of Goldman Sachs. She joined Goldman Sachs in 2002 in the Investment Banking Division and moved to the Merchant Banking Division in 2004. Jean was named Managing Director in 2012.

Jean served on the board of Shanghai La Chapelle Fashion Co., Ltd, China iKang Healthcare Inc and Inner Mongolia Fuyuan Farming Co., Ltd. She is a member of the Beijing Youth Federation and the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Science Alumni Association Council.   She was named as one of “China’s Most Influential Women in the Business Community for 2013”.

She earned a BA from Peking University in 2000 and an MS from Harvard University in 2002.
