Join us as Dean Michael Strauss and Dr. Maria Blekher of Yeshiva University share their insight and expertise on the Israeli start-up community.
Following their presentations, we will offer a preview of Innovation in Israel and Beyond (June 18-25, 2017), an exclusive opportunity for students around the globe to gain insight into Israel’s Start-Up Nation and to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge required to become a global business leader. The goal of this one-week program is to expose students to Israel’s unique ecosystem and to help participants take steps towards establishing new ventures.
Offered jointly by CKGSB, Yeshiva University and The Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya, Innovation in Israel and Beyond will take its participants to Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv where they will be exposed to industry leaders and entrepreneurs who are eager to share their experiences and personal stories to educate tomorrow’s leadership. Furthermore, students will also have an opportunity to visit venture capital funds and to meet private investors as well as outstanding technology accelerators.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dean Michael Strauss
Associate Dean of the Sy Syms School of Business, Assistant to the Provost, Clinical Professor of Management, and Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Yeshiva University
Michael Strauss is an Associate Dean of the Sy Syms School of Business, and Assistant to the Provost with responsibilities for the Career Center and the Office of the Registrar. He served as the Chairman and CEO of BSafe Electrix, Inc., an advanced start-up company that owns intellectual property addressing safety problems in electrical products used in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Additionally, he served as the Chairman of Sherwood Consulting Group, Inc., a management advisory firm dedicated to advising and coaching emerging growth companies. He spent twelve years at American Express, where he was one of only three executive vice presidents of the Travel Related Services Division. Dean Strauss also served in several financial and management capacities at American Airlines, the Bank of New York, and CitiGroup. He earned his MBA from the City University of New York, Baruch School. Dean Strauss was born and raised in Israel and is fluent in both Hebrew and German.
Dean Strauss has taught several undergraduate courses, including Principles of Management, Organizational Behavior, and Turn Around Business Strategy, a course that he created. He also teaches a course in Entrepreneurship in the Sy Syms EMBA program. His teaching interests include entrepreneurship, business leadership, and employee career development.
Dean Strauss is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Long Island Museum of Science and Technologies, and of Cristo Rey Academy, a Catholic college preparatory high school that exclusively serves inner city, at risk youths. He also serves on the Long Island High Technology Incubator and the Dean’s Council at the SUNY—Stony Brook College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He is a founding member of the Long Island Software and Technology Network and a founding member and Chairman of ExecuLeaders Forum for Marketing and Sales. He also serves on a number of other not-for-profit Boards.
Dr. Maria Blekher
Clinical Associate Professor of Digital Strategies; Director, MS in Marketing, AS in Management at the Katz School of Graduate and Professional Studies at Yeshiva University
Dr. Maria Blekher is the Director of the Marketing, MS program at The Katz School of Graduate and Professional Studies. Part of the Katz founding team, Dr. Blekher holds an MBA and a PhD in Marketing from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. Dr. Blekher believes that knowledge has the power to create change and should be useful and hands on, and developed the unique course “Business in the Israeli Environment” for the Sy Syms School of Business, where she also teaches Principles of Marketing and Marketing Research. She has also taught in the departments of Management, Business Administration, and Industrial Engineering Management at both the graduate and undergraduate level at Ben-Gurion University. Dr. Blekher is the founder of MadeInIsrael.Info—an online educational platform that connects the American Jewish community to Israel by providing information about Israeli business and brands.
