2010 Hope School with Dean-Philanthropy- CKGSB

At CKGSB, we go beyond the traditional boundaries of business schools to foster social innovation through the collaboration of businesses, governments, multilateral institutions, non-profit organizations and civil society, to address humanity’s most challenging and often systemic issues—like income and wealth inequality, social immobility and sustainability. In 2005, CKGSB was the first business school in China to incorporate humanities into its core business curricula to give students a more holistic view of business. CKGSB also set up the EMBA philanthropy scholarship in 2002, now awarded across all of our degree programs to outstanding civil society and NGO leaders. Since 2009, all degree students must participate in philanthropic service in order to graduate, resulting in a total of 150,000+ hours served to date. CKGSB began offering social innovation as an elective module for EMBA and MBA students in 2017 and a required module since 2018. Since then, CKGSB has been working with partners across sectors to develop a global ecosystem for next-generation disruptors that are economically, socially and environmentally responsible, while embracing technologic innovation.

CKGSB Philanthropy- CKGSB

We are extremely proud of the achievement we’ve made so far in advancing efforts towards poverty alleviation, equal access to management education and collaborating with partner organizations to give back to society.  In 2020 and 2021, our achievements include:

In the 2021 Forbes China Philanthropy list, 23 of the top 100 Chinese entrepreneurs who made the most contributions to public welfare were CKGSB alumni. This year’s list represents 221.7 billion RMB donations made to charity, in which CKGSB’s alumni contributed 63 billion RMB, making up nearly 30% of the total amount. In addition, nearly ¼of the listed entrepreneurs who donated over 100 million RMB to charity were CKGSB alumni.

On September 5, the government announced the 2021 China Charity Awards in Beijing. Nearly 10% of the 130 individuals and companies who made the list for their impressive contributions to poverty alleviation were CKGSB alumni. Moreover, 17% of the 52 selected individuals and companies who demonstrated tremendous strength and charity in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic were CKGSB alumni.

CKGSB has been honored as a finalist for the United Nation’s 2021 China Social Impact Awards for the “Equality in Education Award,” chosen among more than 200 institutions, many of which are Fortune 500 companies. The award nomination recognized the school’s work with the China National MBA Education Supervisory Committee to train MBA professors from universities based in the less developed areas of western China. Thus far, CKGSB has trained more than 400 MBA professors from over 50 universities across 20 underdeveloped provinces in China.

On the National Poverty Alleviation Summary and Commendation Conference held on February 23, 2021, at which President Xi Jinping recognized the honorary winners of the poverty alleviation awards. Among the 1981 individuals recognized for their efforts in alleviating poverty, seven were CKGSB alumni; and among the 1501 institutions awarded for their fight against poverty, nine were companies led by CKGSB alumni.

On January 22, 2021, the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Administration for Market Regulation and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce jointly commended 100 private business leaders who have made outstanding contributions in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Among them, 20 CKGSB alumni, who accounted for one-fifth of the total, were awarded the “National Prize for Private Business Leaders Combatting COVID-19”.

On December 25, 2020, CKGSB won the “China Outstanding Poverty Alleviation Case” award given by the State Council’s Poverty Alleviation Office and People’s Daily. The award recognizes CKGSB’s years of dedication and poverty alleviation efforts in Ji’an. As China ended absolute poverty in 2020, this recognition from China’s leading official media is particularly rewarding.

At the National Commendation Conference for Model Workers and Advanced Workers that was held in Beijing on November 24, 2020, where President Xi Jinping delivered important remarks, 18 CKGSB alumni won the honorary title of “National Model Worker”.

CKGSB was given the “2020 China Philanthropic Enterprise of the Year” award by the China Philanthropy Times, a well-respected philanthropic journal, published under China’s Ministry of Public Affairs. Dean Xiang Bing was also named the “2020 China Philanthropist of the Year.”

CKGSB was named one of the “2020 Top Ten Philanthropic Institutions of the Year” by Phoenix’s iFeng.com. Professor Yan Aimin accepted the award on behalf of the school and delivered a speech on CKGSB’s pioneering efforts in social responsibility and social innovation.

CKGSB was granted the “Committee for Good Award” at the 2020 China Social Enterprise and Impact Investment Forum. Professor Zhu Rui was also awarded the “Research for Good Award” in recognition of her book, Companies of the Future: A Three-step Approach for Sustainable Business.
