Continuous education is core to succeed in today’s evolving business environment, Mary Wadsworth Darby, Chief Representative of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (Americas) told an audience of American and Chinese business leaders.

Speaking as a keynote speaker at the 2017 China-U.S. International Enterprise and Innovation Expo, Ms. Darby said that investment in executive education is experiencing a “paradigm shift from one-time investment to continuous skill-building.” Her presentation outlined the revolution in executive education.

Ms. Darby explained that because of frequent shifts in business models, today’s companies seek specialized trainings. Moreover, executive education offers global exposure; and it enables students to network with like-minded professionals.

“Accessing the C-Suite increasingly requires frequent short-term, specialized training,” said Ms. Darby. “The one-time investment in education doesn’t necessarily serve ambitious professionals who aim for senior management and executive levels.”

Professionals with executive education standout from their peers, and, as a result, can benefit from higher compensation, quicker growth opportunities and overall broader options in the market, she explained.

While the pursuit of executive education is a career-booster for professionals, companies, unlike in the past, are not sponsoring their employees’ continuing education as generously as in the past. As a result, many ambitious entrepreneurs cope with this additional cost by pursuing certification programs, which meet today’s increasing demand for specialized skills.

In this environment, CKGSB designed its programs to meet today’s criteria and ensure that ambitious professionals succeed in the market. The school offers English MBA, Chinese MBA, Executive MBA specializing in Finance, Healthcare or the Arts, Business Scholars Program (DBA) and Executive Education programs. Its custom programs include Finance MBA, Executive MBA, Dual-Degree EMBA with IMD, Korean EMBA, and Doctor of Business Administration. Its many partnership continue to ensure that the students benefit from critical skills. These strategic partnership include joint programs and research with leading schools worldwide, such as Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard Kennedy School in the US, IMD in Switzerland and FDC in Brazil, INSEAD, and the Malaysian Government.

To be sure, CKGSB is truly a unique institutions of higher learning as it is China’s first faculty-governed, independent, non-profit business school. Established in 2002, it now has more than 50 full-time faculty members recruited from the world’s leading business schools. The school has campuses in China’s most important business and commercial hubs, Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen; and offices in Hong Kong, London and New York.

“We offer Access to alumni network with track record of success and achievement in China, the United States, and globally,” said Ms. Darby. “This is reflected in the fact that our alumni include than 600 Chinese business leaders at the chairman and CEO level.”

Some of CKGSB’s outstanding alumni include the Li Dongshen, Chairman and CEO of TCL; Jack Upton, a director at McDonald’s UK; and both the chairman and CEO of Fuson Group.

Ms. Darby is a prominent contributor to the U.S.-China relationship. Prior to her speech, Charles Wang, President of Chinese American Cultural & Art Association, noted that it is nearly 40 years since Washington and Beijing established a relationship that continues to grow commercially and politically. Mr. Wang called Ms. Darby a “historic figure” in this endeavor. Ms. Darby began her career as a strategic planning consultant for companies entering the Asia and China market.

The Expo, held on Wall Street, the storied New York City, attracted some of the most prominent business leaders entrepreneurs and political leaders involved in the Asian-American community and US-China commercial relationship.

Alan Chen, Director of CKGSB  Americas, said the School’s participation at expo is in line with its aim to educate business leaders who have global vision a strong sense.

“CKGSB Americas is committed to be the bridge and promoter of US-China relationship, not just on the business front but across people-to-people exchange and sharing of ideas and visions,” Mr. Chen said at the Expo.
