[July 1, 2024, Beijing, China] Dr. Liu Jing, Professor of Accounting and Finance, and Director of the Investment Research Center at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) captivated the audience with his presentation on China’s economy at the 2024 Sino-Swiss Economic Forum (SSEF) in Beijing. Organized by the Swiss Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland in China, SSEF is the largest economic summit between China and Switzerland, featuring high-level dialogues aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation between the two countries.
This year’s forum, themed “Empower, Collaborate and Innovate”, included prominent figures such as the Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, and visiting Swiss Federal Councilor Guy Parmelin, as well as influential speakers from Chinese and Swiss companies, to discuss pressing economic issues.
As the only academic representative among the speakers, Professor Liu delivered a compelling presentation on “China’s Economic Transformations” at the C-level sub-forum. His audience included senior executives from Switzerland and Swiss companies operating in China, all eager to gain insights into China’s current economic situation.
During the closed-door meeting, Professor Liu gave a comprehensive analysis of the critical economic challenges in China, including the middle-income trap, investment-consumption imbalance, the real estate dilemma, and geopolitical impacts. Professor Liu also highlighted future opportunities and sectors to watch, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements and policies in achieving sustainable economic growth.
Professor Liu’s extensive research at CKGSB encompasses corporate finance, economic reforms, financial accounting, investments, and real estate. His work bridges the gap between theory and practice, with a particular focus on capital markets and investment analysis.
