July 16, 2014

CKGSB Professor Zhou Chunsheng said, “The rapid growth of China during its period of economic reform had been based on capital investment from overseas Chinese”. He added, “Overseas Chinese have no language barrier while doing business in China and are also able to access various investment tips and ‘guanxi’ via their relatives across the mainland.” Professor Zhou added, “A significant portion of all overseas Chinese capital investment was made by individuals and this is because overseas Chinese are buying up a lot of real estate, including houses, buildings and land”.

CKGSB Professor Zhou Chunsheng said, “The investment of overseas Chinese on the mainland is the best example of a win-win strategy between the country and the capital” during an interview with Maeil Business Newspaper. He added that the rapid growth of China during its period of economic reform had been based on capital investment from overseas Chinese.

Professor Zhou said overseas Chinese are at an advantage when it comes to succeeding in China, because they have no language barrier while doing business in China and are also able to access various investment tips and ‘guanxi’ via their relatives across the mainland. Professor Zhou explained that Guandong and Fujian provinces in the southeast corner of China operated as a cradle for overseas Chinese and that this was related to the fact that most overseas Chinese capital was directed towards the east coast of China.

Professor Zhou added that, “A significant portion of all overseas Chinese capital investment was made by individuals and this is because overseas Chinese are buying up a lot of real estate, including houses, buildings and land”. He explained that another distinctive feature of overseas Chinese capital investment is that it largely focuses on the service industry rather than the manufacturing sector.
