On May 23, 2024, the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) held a session on artificial intelligence at the 15th Asian Leadership Conference (ALC), an annual international conference held in Seoul, Korea. The theme of this year’s ALC was ‘The Era of Hyper-Uncertification: Innovative Leadership for the New Future.’ More than 250 prominent speakers, including Mike Pompeo, Kevin McCarthy, former White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain, and Nouriel Roubini, an honorary professor at New York University, participated in the 90 sessions.
Mei Danqing, Assistant Professor of Finance at Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), introduced how to utilize generative AI’s data and core technology, offering concrete tips on how it can help improve work efficiency.
“With the advent of Artificial Intelligence, various industries are greatly affected by the application of AI technology to their fields. Like deepfakes, generative AI can even realize human creativity and artistry based on learned data”, Professor Mei said.
Dr. Dou Dejing, former director of the Baidu Big Data Research Center, shared his insights on China’s AI strategy. Amid the heated competition to dominate the artificial intelligence market, he discussed with Cho Joo-hee, ABC News’ Seoul bureau chief, the direction in which China, as the world leader in artificial intelligence, will develop AI and define the standards and norms for global AI practices.
The final part of the CKGSB session at ALC focused on “The Future of the Labor Market Transformed by Artificial Intelligence”. Intelligent production factors, such as robots, the Internet of Things, and extensive data analysis, are reshaping the dynamics of labor supply and demand. While artificial intelligence technology may enhance efficiency there are also concerns over whether it will replace human labor. CKGSB Assistant Professor of Economics Zhong Ling and Cindy Mi, Founder and CEO of VIPKID and a CKGSB alumna who pioneered online education in China, discussed the impact of AI on the current industry and what changes it will bring to the future labor market and industrial structure.
Hosted by the Chosun Ilbo, the ALC is a premier international conference where world leaders discuss the pressing issues facing the Asian economy and provide possible solutions. Since its inception in 2005, the conference has attracted world-renowned political leaders, CEOs of leading multinational corporations, and academic leaders.
