17th WKF: Mapping the Future of China’s Financial Markets

April 05, 2018

CKGSB Professors Ou-Yang Hui and Zhou Chunsheng will share their insights about the current state of China’s financial market, as well as how Internet finance and Fintech will shape the future, at special CKGSB Sessions at the 17th World Knowledge Forum in South Korea. It is the third consecutive year that CKGSB has joined the forum as a knowledge partner.

The World Knowledge Forum (WKF) is Korea’s largest annual knowledge-sharing conference hosted by one of the nation’s largest media conglomerates, Maekyung Media Group. Over the past 17 years, thousands of scholars, policy-makers, global leaders and corporate CEOs have participated in the forum.

The 17th World Knowledge Forum will explore the value of knowledge sharing and the importance of new leadership. Experts in politics, economics and science will come together to evaluate today’s world. Under the theme of “Aiming for Great Instauration,” speakers will re-analyze the meaning of Great Instauration, first suggested by philosopher Francis Bacon, in the modern context. More than 200 speakers will partake in over 90 sessions in seven sub-themed tracks. This year’s forum will also be the first to hold a separate session focusing on the theme of future finance.

Speakers including Dick Cheney, former Vice President of the United States, and Wendy Sherman, the US Department of State Ambassador, will discuss the upcoming US Presidential Election. David Rubenstein, CEO of The Carlyle Group, will suggest investment strategies in an era of uncertainty, and Robert Barro, Professor at Harvard University, will speak about the present and future of the global economy.

Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) joins this year’s prestigious forum for the third consecutive year as a knowledge partner, holding its own branded “CKGSB Sessions”. CKGSB professors will deliver speeches to evaluate the present and future of financial markets and Internet finance in China, and join panel discussions to discuss how they will impact global financial markets.

Professor Ou-Yang Hui will deliver a lecture on risks and opportunities in China’s financial market, while Professor Zhou Chunsheng will join a finance-specific session held in Busan where he will speak about Internet finance trends in China and offer advice for Busan, the second-largest South Korean city that strives to become a new financial hub in Northeast Asia. Professor Zhou will also join a panel discussion about Fintech and the future of Asian financial markets.
