Program overview

CKGSB partners with one of the world’s top universities, Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School, to widen our student’s perspective and meet the challenges of tomorrow in an intensive two-year, part-time dual-degree MBA. This partially online program will confer a Master of Science in Finance from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and a Master of Business Administration from CKGSB. Students will have the chance to earn a Master of Science in Finance degree from Johns Hopkins without leaving China.

Students of the dual-degree program will take MBA courses in Chinese in Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen and MS Finance courses online taught by world-class faculty of both CKGSB and Carey Business School. They will become a part of the CKGSB alumni network that consists of over 16,000 alumni and to Johns Hopkins alumni community with more than 220,000 alumni worldwide. The curriculum provides a significant portion of the curriculum devoted to the CFA Institute’s Candidate Body of Knowledge, preparing students to sit for the CFA exams.

A hybrid format of class:

Online: Combination of asynchronous (anytime) and synchronous (real-time) learning activities by Carey Business School

Offline: CKGSB courses (in China) -And an option to spend 8 weeks onsite at Carey Business School

Dual degree program features

In addition to course waivers and credit transfers for CKGSB dual degree students, they will also receive a 10% tuition discount

Students who complete the dual-degree program will receive the CKGSB Master of Business Administration degree and the Master of Science in Finance degree from Carey Business School.

    The MS Finance Program is designed for full-time working individuals. Students should follow the above program plan. However, in consultation with their advisor, students may adjust their course load. Not following the recommended plan may delay degree completion.

    Please note that not all courses are offered every semester.

    • This is an example of the program plan of the MS Finance (part time, online) program. The final program plan will be provided by the program office close to the semester start dates.
    • MS Finance program (online) has one required Business Communication Residency, a two-day event component in Baltimore. During COVID-19, the Residency is organized in a virtual format.
    • Each online course has 3-4 online synchronous sessions that are offered at the beginning, middle, and towards the end of the term.
    • Faculty offer virtual office hours via Zoom or phone. Some courses offer TA office hours for group study and problem solving.
    • Many online courses have a teamwork component. Students will schedule working sessions in their own teams, throughout the term.

Application requirements

1.

Students applying to CKGSB – JHU Dual-Degree Program have to be admitted into CKGSB MBA program based on the CKGSB admissions requirements, or have the MBA earned from CKGSB within last 2 years.

Course requirements:

A. Three courses will be excluded for CKSGB dual-degree students: Economics for Decision Making, The Firm and the Macro-economy, and Investments.

 

B. Dual degree students may transfer up to 4 additional credits (conditional on earning at least a grade B in analogous courses at CKGSB): Statistical Analysis and Accounting and Financial Reporting. These courses have to be completed prior to the start of the MS Finance program at Johns Hopkins.

 

C. Transcript showing the completion of the 5 courses listed above is required for graduation from Johns Hopkins MS Finance program.

 

D. Students admitted into the dual-degree program will be required to complete at least 26 credits at JHU Carey Business School, leading to a MS Finance degree.
