BOAO, China, April 11—Many of world’s top business leaders gathered last week at the 2012 edition of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference, the premier business and economic conference in Asia, in order to discuss “Asia in the Changing World: Moving Toward Sound and Sustainable Development.” CKGSB was honored to act as a knowledge facilitator at this influential and timely event by organizing the Boao Forum’s first ever CEO Brainstorming Session on Tuesday, April 2. The session was chaired by former US Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson and moderated by CKGSB’s Dean, Xiang Bing.
The CEO Brainstorming Session focused on the topics of investment opportunities in light of ongoing global financial problems and the policy innovations necessary to ensure a sustainable economic future. The participants at the closed door session were 26 of the world’s most successful business leaders, including: PepsiCo Chairman and CEO Indra Nooyi; GE Vice Chairman, Global Growth and Operations President and CEO John Rice; Schneider Electric President and CEO Jean-Pascal Tricoire; Tokyo Stock Exchange Chairman and former Toshiba Chairman Taizo Nishimuro; Chia Tai Group Chairman Dhanin Chearavanont; and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Vice Chairman Ramadorai Subramanian.
Participants broke into groups to discuss questions posed by the moderator, Xiang Bing, Dean of CKGSB
Given CKGSB’s experience in cultivating sustainable business leaders, as well as its alumni network of high-level Chinese and global businesspeople, Xiang was an ideal moderator of the session.
As Xiang guided the room’s considerable brainpower through a discussion of the global investment outlook, he encouraged participants to consider the innovations in policy, governance and business practices that will be necessary to create a sustainable and equitable future.
“As the process of globalization continues, we are seeing global needs and priorities come into severe conflict with national and local politics,” said Xiang. “Therefore we need to build up a better relationship between government and business, in order to create a more inclusive model for development, and mitigate possible risks and challenges.”
Henry Paulson reinforced this idea by stating that business investment decisions cannot be made in isolation: they must always take the policy environment into account.

Both the Boao Forum and CKGSB are representative of the remarkable shift in the world’s economic, commercial and political centers of gravity, away from mature economies and toward Asia and other rapidly developing regions. It was, therefore, an apt platform for global executives of this caliber to hold so significant a discussion. Through 10 years’ innovative development, CKGSB has established itself as a leading new generation business school that is building vital bridges for the two-way traffic between global business leaders. Held in the resort town of Boao on China’s southern island province of Hainan, the three-day Boao (pronounced Bwo-ow) Forum for Asia Annual Conference is recognized as one of the most important business and economic summits in Asia and the world.
Let the learning and conversations continue.
