Research plays a key role at CKGSB, with the school operating seven research centers and a case center that has produced over 300 China-specific cases and reports. Five faculty members have recently submitted papers for publication – and two of them have won awards!
One of the key reasons world-class professors join CKGSB is that they experience the same level of autonomy and freedom of inquiry as they would at a leading business school in a developed economy. In addition to their top-notch educational backgrounds and prestigious past professorships at leading business schools, our faculty members are defined by their innovative research output.
The school is very proud to announce that no fewer than five faculty members from CKGSB have recently had papers published in prestigious academic journals, with two of those papers winning awards.
Dr. Li Lode, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Operations Management at CKGSB, won the inaugural Best Published Paper Award at the most recent iFORM (Interface of Finance, Operations, and Risk Management) awards. Co-written by current and former Yale University Professor and Martin Shubik and Matthew J. Sobel, the paper, “Control of Dividends, Capital Subscriptions, and Physical Inventories”, appeared in the January 2013 edition of the academic journal Management Science. The authors will be officially congratulated at the INFORMS Annual Meeting in San Francisco later this year. INFORMS is the leading association for professionals in the fields of analytics, management science and operations research.
Meanwhile, a recent paper by Assistant Professor of Accounting at CKGSB, Zhang Weining, ‘The Effect of Politician Career Concerns on Media Slant and Market Return: Evidence from China’ has won the 2014 TCFA Best Paper Award. The Chinese Finance Association, or TCFA, is US-based organization that serves as a bridge between the US and China in the field of finance. Prof Zhang has already presented the paper at several conferences, including ones at the National Bureau of Economic Research and MIT. The paper, which was co-authored by Oxford don Jin Li and Renmin University Professor Xu Nianhang, is currently under revision before it is sent for publication.
Three other faculty members at CKGSB have also had papers published in top journals in recent months. Jing Bing, Associate Professor of Marketing, has had his paper ‘Customer Recognition in Experience versus Inspection Good Markets’ accepted for publication in Management Science.
Also appearing in Management Science was Assistant Professor of Operations Management Liang Chao’s paper ‘Analysis of Product Rollover Strategies in the Presence of Strategic Customers’, co-authored by Metin Çakanyıldırım and Suresh P. Sethi, both from the Naveen Jindal School of Management, University of Texas at Dallas.
Dr. Erica X.N. Li, Assistant Professor of Finance at CKGSB co-authored ‘Nominal Rigidities, Asset Returns and Monetary Policy’ with Francisco Palomino from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Their paper was published in the Journal of Monetary Economics.
With five faculty members from four departments all securing either prestigious publications or peer-reviewed awards, it certainly demonstrates the research strengths and capabilities of CKGSB’s faculty.
