One of China’s top philosophers and leading advocate of the Confucian tradition around the world, Professor Tu Weiming, received the highly acclaimed International East Asian Studies Lifetime Achievement Award in Beijing on November 18th. This award was given out by Yuelu Academy, Phoenix New Media, Dunhe Foundation and Particle News at the Global East Asian Studies Ceremony.
Dr. Tu is Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business’ (CKGSB) Honorary Professor and Chairman of the CKGSB Committee on Humanities. He is also the Chair Professor of Humanities and Founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University and Professor Emeritus and Senior Fellow of Harvard University’s Asia Center. Professor Tu has published several books in English and in Chinese, and dozens of articles focusing on the modern transformation of Confucian humanism.
Born in China’s southern city of Kunming in 1940, Dr. Tu grew up in Taiwan. He obtained his B.A. in Chinese Studies at Tunghai University in Taiwan and then received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. Since then, he has taught Chinese intellectual history, Chinese philosophy, and Confucian studies at Princeton University, University of California at Berkeley, Harvard University, Beijing Normal University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, National Taiwan University, Peking University, the University of Paris and King’s College London.
