ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Zhou Li
Assistant Dean at CKGSB
Zhou Li joined CKGSB in July 2010 as an Assistant Dean. He is primarily responsible for the school’s global programs and operations. He is also in charge of more than 10 research centers, including the Humanities and Business Ethics Center, China and the World Economic Center as well as the school’s Knowledge Center and Case Center. He serves as the Chief Editor for CKGSB Knowledge, the school’s English-language China business magazine. At CKGSB, Mr. Zhou has built and led a multicultural team that includes former executives of leading business schools in Asia, the US and Europe. He has initiated and participated in CKGSB’s collaboration with leading global educational institutions, such as Harvard Kennedy School and Johnson School at Cornell University. Prior to joining CKGSB, Mr. Zhou worked in the corporate world for more than 20 years at various positions, including CEO, in telecom, IT, investment and consulting companies in Canada, Hong Kong and mainland China. Mr. Zhou received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at Renmin University in China and his MBA degree at McGill University in Canada.
Mary Wadsworth Darby
Senior Director of CKGSB Americas
As Senior Director of CKGSB Americas, Mary builds programs, initiatives and businesses in both North and South America. In addition to expanding the CKGSB Americas brand through conferences and events, she strives to build strong relationships and programs with partnering schools. Previously, Mary worked for Morgan Stanley in firm management and headed the Asia and China Desks. She moved to HK and headed Morgan Stanley Investment Management (MSIM) in Hong Kong and developed the first institutional sales initiative with Chinese financial entities. Mary has worked extensively in China and Asia for more than 25 years. She founded Peridot Asia Advisors, a strategic transactions advisory firm. She has substantial experience negotiating market entry strategies over a broad range of industries, as well as with Chinese financial institutions, state-owned enterprises, regulatory authorities and other government entities responsible for regulating and supervising the insurance and banking industries. Her background also includes serving as Executive Director of the America-China Society, a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion of US-China relations chaired by former US Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and the late Cyrus Vance. Mary earned a B.A. degree from Princeton University. A fluent Mandarin speaker, she also holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School and an M.P.A. from Columbia School of International and Public Affairs. She is currently a Senior Research Scholar at the Jerome A. Chazen Institute of International Business at Columbia Business School; Chair of the Hong Kong Association of New York; and also serves as Independent Director of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC, USA).
Daniel G. Van Der Vliet
The John and Dyan Smith Executive Director of Family Business at Cornell University
Daniel G. Van Der Vliet is The John and Dyan Smith Executive Director of Family Business at Cornell University. Launched in 2014 and housed on the S. C. Johnson Graduate School of Management, the Smith Family Business Initiative at Cornell is developing programs, courses and content for students, business owners and next-generation thinkers in today’s global economy. As director of the Family Business Initiative @ UVM (University of Vermont) from 2003-2014, Mr. Van Der Vliet worked with owners and their successors to find solutions that work for both family and business. He developed and taught Leading and Managing the Family and Closely Held Business, a course at UVM from 2004 – 2013. Previously, as founding Director of the Vermont Business Center from 2004-2008, Mr. Van Der Vliet oversaw the launch and growth of the executive education curriculum and management development seminars at UVM.
