Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) successfully co-hosted the 1st ASEAN Business Research Initiative Workshop with Singapore Management University on Dec 7th to showcase the research outcomes and promote academic exchanges between the two schools.
Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) successfully co-hosted the 1st ASEAN Business Research Initiative Workshop with Singapore Management University on Dec 7th to showcase the research outcomes and promote academic exchanges between the two schools. Twenty-nine professors and research fellows from both schools attended the workshop, leading to robust discussions on a wide range of research topics.
The workshop showcased 6 projects, 3 from each school, including Roy Chua, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior & Human Resources and Associate Dean at SMU, Zhu Rui, Professor of Marketing at CKGSB, Li Weikai, Assistant Professor of Finance at SMU, Mei Danqing, Assistant Professor of Finance at CKGSB, Marko Pitesa and Lim Jiahui, Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior & Human Resources Member, Institutional Review Board at SMU, and Zhong Ling, Assistant Professor of Economics at CKGSB, who presented their research findings.
ASEAN Business Research Initiative (ABRI) was founded in 2019 by CKGSB’s Business Scholars Program (DBA) and Singapore Management University, to support faculty research, facilitate student projects, and generate original insights related to businesses operating in the ASEAN region. The initiative supports research from both schools focusing on the understanding of the business environment, economies, institutions and their management, and the developments and innovation in the ASEAN nations.
Since 2019, a total of 45 projects have received funding from ABRI and the two schools have seen fruitful results in research and pedagogical development projects primarily based on the ASEAN region, as well as projects related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jennifer Huang, Professor of Finance and ARBI committee chair from CKGSB said, “We are very glad to we have achieved fruitful results and encouraged to see academic exchanges between the two schools.”
Professor Shantanu Bhattacharya, ABRI committee chair from SMU said, “We wanted to host this ABRI workshop for 2 years now but it has been delayed due to the pandemic. I am very happy see that we finally made this happen online and hopefully we can host it face-to-face in the near future.
At the end of the seminar, Professor Roy Chua, ABRI committee member from SMU said that researches this year nicely balanced research topics and focuses. Brian Viard, Associate Professor of Strategy and Economics and ABRI committee member from CKGSB also expressed his appreciation for the great works that were done by ABRI awardees.
