Six Buzzwords from the 2015 Lianghui
A quick guide to some of the hottest topics that came up during the 2015 Lianghui, the two annual meetings that set the agenda for the Chinese economy.
It’s that time of the year again when the movers and shakers of China’s political and economic machinery descend upon Beijing for Lianghui, or the two meetings of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). These two meetings are practically the most watched events in China throughout the year. During the two meetings, China’s premier releases an annual report unveiling figures like the annual GDP growth target which has been set at 7% for 2015.
Policy announcements made during the two meetings always make headline news. The NPC, being China’s top legislative body, has the power to amend the Constitution while the CPPCC acts as the top policymaking body since the foundation of the “New China” in 1949.
We put together a list of some of the hottest buzzwords that have come up in this year’s Lianghui (the NPC meetings end on 15th March and CPPCC’s meetings end on the 13th).
