About this event

Date & Time: 14:30-17:00
Location: CKGSB New Beijing Campus, No 125 Guangqumennei Street, Dongcheng District
Format: In-person, closed-door
Language: English
Organizer: Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China

As global automotive players navigate widespread electrification challenges, China has grown into the world’s largest EV manufacturer and exporter, completing an industrial transformation from follower to global leader.

Today’s auto competition is no longer limited to products and pricing; it has evolved into comprehensive rivalry over scale innovation, industrial ecosystems, regulatory standards and governance capabilities. European automakers are grappling with overcapacity and price wars in Europe, alongside fragmented cross-border data regulations and divergent carbon standards in China.

Meanwhile, Chinese EV exports face mounting US and EU trade barriers, prompting Chinese carmakers to adopt a “new Chinese-style” global expansion model. Navigating this dynamic market successfully poses a major challenge for all auto players. Backed by integrated supply chains and a vast domestic market, China has become a critical testing ground where a growing number of European auto firms anchor key pillars of their global strategies.

Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) and The European Chamber and cordially invite you to this joint seminar. Keynote speaker Professor LI Wei, a distinguished CKGSB expert on China’s economy, business and EV sector, together with representative from enterprise will shed light on the current state of the EV market in China, unpack the logic of “new Chinese-style” global expansion, analyze China’s systemic industrial competitiveness via flagship local EV brand cases, compare EU-China institutional frameworks to uncover cooperation prospects, and explore business opportunities for European auto players in China.

Key discussion topics

  • • What is the real driving force behind the rapid rise of China’s EV boom?
  • • How China’s EV innovation is achieved and what is the rationale behind it?
  • • What key lessons can we learn from global expansion cases of leading Chinese EV makers?
  • • How will global economic and geopolitical shifts reshape the outlook for China’s auto industry?
  • • How should foreign automakers recalibrate their China market strategies?
  • • What cooperation opportunities exist between Chinese and European auto players in China?
