Cognitive business is the commercial application of the cognitive system, and comprises of big data, data analysis (cognitive analytics) and operational and payment platforms (cloud platforms). The core technology is data analytics, also known as cognitive analytics. This mimics natural data processing, made up of three techniques: understanding, reasoning and learning. IBM’s cognitive business concept has not only been used in the rapidly developing heathcare sector, but also tested and rolled out in the banking, insurance, retail, law and energy sectors. At the heart of IBM’s most recent transition, this case looks at the application of cognitive business in healthcare.
