On October 15, Dr. Li Xiaoyang, Assistant Professor of Economics and Finance at CKGSB, and Li Kan, Managing Partner of Long Capital & Partners (Venture Capital in TMT sector) who is also a current EMBA student at CKGSB, will speak at the World Knowledge Forum (WKF) in Seoul, Korea. Established in 2000, the WKF is the largest business forum in Asia and brings together global leaders to address the importance of knowledge. The highlight of the WKF’s preliminary event on September 19th was an appearance by Thomas Piketty, Professor at the Paris School of Economics and author of the bestselling ‘Capital in the 21st Century’. Other well-known speakers who are scheduled to appear at the WKF last this month include former French President Nicolas Sarkozy; Karl-Ludwig Kley, Chairman of the executive board of Merck; and Jeremy Rifkin, President of The Foundation on Economic Trends and bestselling author of 20 books, including his latest, ‘The Zero Marginal Cost Society’.

Under this year’s theme of “Invigorating the global economy”, Dr. Li Xiaoyang and Mr. Li Kan will discuss the cross border M&A trends of Chinese companies due to the growing appetite for companies seeking overseas M&As. In recent years, private Chinese companies have narrowed the gap with SOEs, as they have stepped up the pace of their international mergers and acquisitions. Professor Li’s speech will provide in-depth analysis of this topic.

Professor Li will speak for 25 minutes, and will then be joined by Li Kan to discuss the topic for 20 minutes, followed by a Q&A session.
