When Chinese tech giant Tencent launched its Weixin mobile text and voice messaging app in January 2011, few could have predicted just how popular it would become in such a short space of time. It is the largest standalone messaging app by monthly active users.
As of today, Weixin has somewhere north of 500 million active users, with a growing percentage of those now based outside of China, using the international version, WeChat.
But in addition to voice and text messaging, WeChat also has other social features, including a Facebook-like Moments page for each user where links, pictures and messages are shared around the globe. Brands also have a sizeable presence on WeChat, with CKGSB becoming the latest to share its latest news, events and Knowledge Center articles to a growing number of subscribers.
WeChat currently supports phone numbers from more than 100 countries and is available in several languages, including English, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Hindi and Russian. To download the app, please click here.
